Stanley Kirk Burrell (born March 30, 1962), known professionally
as M.C. Hammer (and later simply Hammer), is an American rapper,
dancer, entrepreneur, spokesman and occasional actor. He had his
greatest commercial success and popularity from the late 1980s
until the late 1990s. Remembered for his rapid rise to fame,
Hammer is known for hit records (such as “U Can’t Touch This” and
“2 Legit 2 Quit”), flashy dance movements, choreography and
eponymous Hammer pants. Hammer’s superstar-status and entertaining
showmanship made him a household name and hip hop icon.
Greatest Hits is a pop album from MC Hammer in 1996 which features
his most successful singles from his first four albums. There are
currently two versions/covers of his “Greatest Hits” album, the
other titled The Hits in 2000.
Despite being one of the best-selling rappers of all time, none of
MC Hammer’s albums were very consistent — the singles stood out
like a sore thumb among the filler on each record, which is why
Greatest Hits is such a good bargain. Greatest Hits compiles 12 of
Hammer’s biggest hits for Capitol Records, including “U Can’t
Touch This,” “Pump It Up,” “Turn This Mutha Out,” “They Put Me in
the Mix,” “Have You Seen Her,” “Pray,” “Here Comes the Hammer,” “2
Legit 2 Quit,” “Do Not Pass Me By,” and “Addams Groove.” It’s not
only an excellent introduction to MC Hammer, it’s the best album
in his entire catalog.
